What we dream when we dream about COVID-19 - Chicago Tribune What we dream when we dream about COVID-19 - Chicago Tribune Posted: 06 Oct 2020 09:06 AM PDT In another of the studies, Barrett recruited nearly 3,000 people online to track, describe and write about their dreams. She assessed the content of those essays, using a language-analysis algorithm that maps words onto categories like "anger," "sadness," "body," "health" and "death." Scotch enthusiasts tend to fawn over ancient expressions made with antique stills and hoard prized bottles for years, doling out the precious drams to only the most worthy of fellow nerds. But scotch distillers are also perfectionists open to change, constantly hunting for new ways to improve their craft, new avenues of flavor, new fiery experiences to unleash on the tender palates of humble acolytes and curious neophytes alike. This year saw distillers experimenting with unusually finished single malts, blends that reinterpret honored scotch traditions, expressions that explore the dark corners of brand her...

The 17 Best Recipes Our Food Staff Cooked Last Month - The New York Times The 17 Best Recipes Our Food Staff Cooked Last Month - The New York Times Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:00 AM PDT The beauty of May is that it brings with it unadulterated spring weather. Cool days may appear from time to time, but there's nary a whisper of the bitter cold. Produce, like hope, springs eternal, and nowhere was that clearer than on our plates. Last month, The New York Times Food and Cooking staff went wild in the face of bright flavors, favoring herbs, greens and ripe, succulent fruit over the slightly more staid flavors of cold weather cooking. Here are some of the meals we made in May. There's a lot more reason to celebrate these days, and, since those first summer strawberries are starting to pop up, I've been making pies, pairing the berries with rhubarb or balsamic vinegar. I share a slice or two, then keep the rest in the fridge ...

Between 2015 and 2020, the United States has seen an average of 14 disasters per year that cost at least $1 billion, compared with 6.5 such events annually between 1980 and 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic and attendant socioeconomic crisis have laid bare the United States' systemic vulnerabilities and difficulties in launching large-scale, coordinated, just, and effective responses to external shocks, resulting in short-term disruptions and prolonged crises. These same challenges inhibit societal adaptation to climate change, which is already being felt in communities nationwide as the number of ...
