Farm to school in full swing through TUSD collaboration - The Turlock Journal

Image
When Turlock Unified School District first drafted plans for its school farm seven years ago, the ultimate goal was to provide not only an agricultural learning hub for students, but to also grow healthy foods which would one day make their way from the school farm to the cafeteria table. Now, thanks to plenty of collaboration, teamwork and hours on the farm, that dream has become a reality.  Pitman High School Culinary Arts instructor Mohini Singh, TUSD Coordinator of Environmental Studies and Applied Horticulture Hali Bream and TUSD Director of Child Nutrition Jennifer Lew-Vang have put their heads together to become the perfect trifecta of farm-to-table knowledge. The trio utilizes Bream’s knowledge of the farm, Lew-Vang’s expertise when it comes to school lunches and Singh’s dedication to teaching culinary precision to create a system that has allowed students to eat and utilize fresh ingredients at lunch and in the classroom.  Pitman High School Culinary Arts instructo...

How to execute someone in BitLife - Gamepur

Image
As a royalty member in BitLife, you may have the option to do away with someone who is undermining you in your kingdom. You don’t have to go out of your way to capture them, but its an excellent way to make an example to your followers when you want to be more of a tyrant than a leader. Not every member of royalty can outright execute people, though. The option to execute someone only shows up for the highest leaders of a country. For example, for Japan, our character had to become the empress or emperor of the country. After that, you have the option to execute any member of your country. It can be a random citizen, or it could be a specific character they’ve met before. For example, we chose to execute the character’s ex-boyfriend and stalker. When we decided to execute them, we had a list of options for how we’d like to deal with them. We could do it with rat torture, firing squad, or turn them into puppy chow. The choice was ours. There are other opportunities for your ruler ...

Woman sparks regional debate with contentious food photo: ‘No idea what this is’ - Yahoo Lifestyle

Image
A Twitter user is sparking a massive regional debate all with a seemingly simple question: “What is this snack called?” Claire Downs, a TV writer and researcher based in Los Angeles, posed the question in a May 22 tweet that has since received nearly 7,000 replies. In her post, she shared a close-up photo of a bowl of Chex cereal covered in a powdery, sugary substance. “Where you are from, what is this called?” Downs asked. The answer, it turns out, is not so straightforward. Downs originally wrote that her brother-in-law, who is from Oklahoma, calls the mixture “white trash,” adding that to him, it’s considered a Christmastime treat. Countless Twitter users disagreed on that name, however. Commenters replied to Downs’ tweet with a wide-ranging array of suggestions — from “puppy chow” to “muddy buddies” to “reindeer poo.” “In the Florida swampland we call that Satan’s teeth, or Christmas Crunchers during the holiday,” one user claimed. Others were completely perplexed by the arg...

Walmart Sells Tubs Of Bunny Bait And Puppy Chow That You'll Want To Snack On This Easter - Yahoo Lifestyle

Photo credit: Instagram/foodymomma More From Delish Although you might automatically think of chocolate bunnies and Peeps for Easter, there are other creative ways to satisfy your sweet tooth for the holiday. Our bunny bait recipe, for one, combines salty, sweet, and colorful ingredients for Easter and now you can get a similar snack pre-made from Walmart. The Walmart mix is called "Munchy Medley," according to its packaging, and it includes salty pretzels, white chocolate-covered pretzels, white chocolate Chex, and pastel colored M&M's. You can also get pastel colored "Yummy Chow" (which is super similar to our Puppy Chow) and has powdered sugar-coated Chex mixed in with bright M&M's. Both mixes are sweet and crunchy, a combo your ordinary Easter candy can't always compete with. The snacks were seen at Walmart by @foodymomma on Instagram, and people in the comments said they've seen similar treats available throughout the y...

Louis, 10, Leader of the Pack - New Canaanite

Image
Louis, our beloved shepherd mix, died peacefully at home March 31 following a cancer diagnosis. Louis Maguire-Dinan He was 10. In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers Marvin and Dexter. He was predeceased by Wilbur and Russell. Born around August 2009 and rescued in Lynchburg, Va., he came to us within weeks of buying our house in Stamford. Marie said that she wanted a third dog, a large-breed, long-haired male rescue and that he would be named ‘Louis.’ On Saturday Nov. 7, I set out before dawn to a PawSafe adoption event at a New Milford landscaping and nursery store. There, a litter of 10-week-old shepherd-Chow Chow mix puppies roughhoused noisily in a makeshift corral. Except for one they’d named ‘Kason’ who sat apart, staring up at me.   It was Louis. I brought him home that morning, Marie’s 36th birthday. She came out onto the deck and they met in the yard.   Expressive, watchful, sensitive and sweet, he would become her steady companion—...

This Easter-Themed Puppy Chow Recipe Includes Marshmallow Bits and Cadbury Mini Eggs - Yahoo Lifestyle

Marianne: Atkinson BACKDATED secret changes to key whistleblower forms and rules AFTER the Whistleblower filed his complaint. The complaint was filed in AUGUST. The forms and rules were changed in SEPTEMBER, but backdated to August. The changes eliminated the requirement that whistleblowers provide first-hand evidence to support allegations of wrongdoing. The changes accommodated the complaint, which was based entirely on second-hand information. Atkinson claimed that the changes were made “in response to recent press inquiries regarding” the Whistleblower's complaint. However, the complaint didn't go public - and the press didn't know about it - until the second week of September, when Atkinson notified Congress. The week after that, on September 24th, is when the changes were uploaded to the ICIG website, accompanied by a claim that they were made back in August. None of it makes any sense. How could the forms have been changed back in August if they were changed in res...

Before the coronavirus epidemic, they didn’t know how to cook. Now they are scrambling to learn. - Washington Post

Image
Plaut’s case is an extreme one. With restaurants closed across more than two dozen states — though takeout and delivery are still available in many places — employment uncertainty and grocery store shelves periodically barren, a growing number of people are watching online tutorials, FaceTiming parents, and asking experts on Instagram and Twitter for help in an end-of-days-like scramble to learn how to cook. Basic cooking is a skill many people pick up as a kid, in college, or as a young adult. But with an estimated 40 percent decline in home economics classes, both parents working in 60 percent of American families, and so many options for ready-made meals in urban areas, from grocer steam tables to fast food to delivery apps, some people fell through the cracks. “I picked up very basic stuff, like I can make spaghetti or tacos, but I’m scared of burning rice,” says Amy Myers, 29, a developer based in Chicago. “My mom is a single mom and worked full-time, so she didn’t have ti...

Here’s What Celebrities Are Cooking While Stuck at Home - Glamour

Image
Many celebrities’ reactions to the coronavirus pandemic have been uplifting. Stars left and right are announcing large donations to organizations that help those in need. Others are sending meals to kids who rely on public schools for food. They’re also urging fans via social media to practice social distancing and self-isolation to prevent the spread of the virus. That means no going out, no large group gatherings, and for many, cooking at home. That last one is making for some A-plus social media content, which we all need right now. For celebs like Chrissy Teigen and Antoni Porowski, who are already in the food space, cooking posts are pretty standard. But it’s exciting to see some unexpected chefs, like Kylie Jenner, quarantine from the kitchen. I can’t with 100% certainty say the celebrities on the list below aren’t frequent cooks in their normal lives, but the coronavirus is at least making them post more mouthwatering pics and recipes. And for that, I’m eternally grateful. Che...
