Chef Uwe in the test kitchen GermanDeli shows how perfect German Sauerkraut. The chef uses diced onions Schaller and Weber double smoked bacon, diced and enhance the flavor of Hengstenberg sauerkraut Mildessa. It is sauerkraut for people who’ve never been in love sauerkraut. Recipe: 1/2 cup (or more) diced Schaller & Weber Double-smoked bacon 1 medium onion www.germandeli.com white or yellow 1 box Mildessa www.germandeli.com sauerkraut MODE: Place bacon in a pan until lightly brown sear. Add the chopped onion, bacon and fry until translucent. Add the contents of a box of sauerkraut. Add a generous amount of pepper. Combine all ingredients and add enough water to moisten the ingredients. OPTIONAL: Some people like to add one or more of the following: a teaspoon of cumin, bay leaf, a little white wine, diced apples. Cook, stirring frequently, for at least an hour or two. The more you cook sauerkraut soft it is. IMPORTANT: Keep adding water in small amounts sauerkraut not burn or dry out. Oven method: After the jump, the bacon and onions and add the cabbage, pepper and water Put all ingredients in a covered casserole dish and into a preheated oven at 300 ° F degrees for 2 hours. (Oven version is less work than the method of cooking.) |
