Crime Alert Berks: Tips sought in Cumru Township hit-and-run - Reading Eagle

Crime Alert Berks County, a citizen crime-fighting group, is offering cash rewards of up to $10,000 to anyone supplying tips that lead to an arrest in this case or any other case or crime.

Tipsters with crime information can call 877-373-9913 anytime or contact Crime Alert at its website at www.alertberks.org or via the AlertBerks smartphone app. No one will ask the name of the caller, who will be assigned a code number.

Offense: Hit and run

Date and time: May 25, 9:35 p.m.

Location: Route 422 at the ramps to Interstate 176, Cumru Township

Suspect: The striking vehicle was described as a dark colored Nissan Xterra SUV, possibly outfitted with a front push bumper, and displaying a decal on the rear window identified as the “Naruto Hidden Leaf” symbol, which originates from a Japanese animated book series. See photo.

Police synopsis: Police were dispatched to a crash involving two vehicles in the westbound lanes. The striking vehicle was reported to have not stopped after the crash. A 64-year-old female passenger of the struck vehicle suffered a head injury and was transported to Reading Hospital. The severity of her injuries are unknown. Witnesses the striking vehicle was traveling west at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic. The striking vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, pushing that vehicle into the guide rail, causing extensive damage to the vehicle and injuring the female passenger.
