'The Pioneer Woman' Ree Drummond Weighs in on Whether You Can Really 'Steal' Recipes - Showbiz Cheat Sheet
The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond is the queen of comfort food. Her recipes are so popular they’re featured on the Food Network and she’s regularly called on to provide her expertise on daytime talk shows. One question Drummond recently tackled is whether it’s possible to steal someone’s recipe. Here’s what The Pioneer Woman star had to say.
Ree Drummond’s trick for developing new recipes
Drummond never seems to come up short when it’s time to create brand-new recipes. What’s her secret to conjuring up fresh meals for her audience? In the Spring 2018 issue of The Pioneer Woman magazine, a reader asked Drummond how she manages to put new meals together each week for The Pioneer Woman show. Here’s what Drummond revealed:
Sometimes I just build on core recipes I already use. For instance, I have a chicken tortilla soup and an Italian meatball soup, so I came up with a slow-cooker Mexican meatball soup in my new book, Come and Get It! For home cooks, I think it’s less about culinary brilliance and more about putting little spins on recipes you already know and love.
Ree Drummond says it takes months to choose recipes for a cookbook
Another responsibility Drummond has is putting together new recipes for her cookbooks. Her fans look to her to gather meals that are tasty and unique. Drummond confessed it takes a long time to write up a list of the recipes she wants to include in a cookbook. During an interview with Tulsa World, Drummond shared that it usually takes her a few months just to create a list of the recipes she wants to place in her cookbook.
“Usually a new cookbook starts with me making a list of recipes I’m passionate about sharing,” said Drummond. “And that usually takes a couple of months, because things need to evolve before I come up with a more or less complete list. Then I see if there’s some sort of theme I can use to try and connect everything together.”
Ree Drummond’s opinion on whether it’s possible to steal a recipe
Can you steal a recipe? Drummond shared her opinion on the matter during an interview with radio host Bobby Bones. Here’s what the “accidental country girl” had to say on the issue:
I think if it’s going to be cooked, it’s been cooked before. That’s kind of what I think. Usually the things I cook, when I first started my show, I made recipes my mom made and her friends made, and my mother-in-law made that have been passed along to me.
And these days, the things I cook are variations on the theme. It’s amazing how many different approaches you can take to quesadillas. It’s kind of the same formula… I’m not reinventing the wheel with my cooking because I’m a home cook. I wasn’t trained in culinary school. I think everything is a sort of a variation of something that came before unless you’re on that tier of chefs that I love and admire.
