National Ice Cream Cake Day started as a Florida family's tribute to mom - UPI News

June 27 (UPI) -- National Ice Cream Cake Day, celebrated annually on June 27, was started by a Florida family to pay tribute to their mother.

The holiday was first suggested by Jenna Jurado, whose mother, Johanna Jurado, died in a car accident just two months before her June 27 birthday.

Jurado said her mother enjoyed celebrating unofficial holidays from the National Day Calendar, so she decided to submit her own holiday in tribute to her mother, who was a noted fan of ice cream cakes.

The National Day Calendar accepted Jurado's petition and declared June 27 to be National Ice Cream Cake day.

Other holidays and observances for June 27, 2022, include Decide to be Married Day, Happy Birthday to You Day, Helen Keller Day, Industrial Workers of the World Day, National Bingo Day, National Energy Shopping Day, National HIV Testing Day, National Indian Pudding Day, National Orange Blossom Day, Please Take My Children to Work Day, PTSD Awareness Day and Sunglasses Day.
