8 Seattle Places to Go for Dinner and a Show - Eater Seattle

Image
Caprese salad at The Pink Door. | Sabra Boyd There's something about dinner theater. Laughing raucously with strangers, the drama of the kitchen mirroring the drama of the stage, sitting back with a piece of cake at the end and enjoying the unpredictability of it all. Seattle is the place for dinner theater, especially in historic locations. Gaze above at aerial ballets as you eat your bolognese at The Pink Door, or take in a dazzling cabaret as you enjoy the spiced rum cocktail aptly named Lola's Coconuts at the Can Can. For zero-proof options, the Can Can offers the Aurora Elixir Fizz, a refreshing effervescent yuzu-orange blossom mocktail infused with herbaceous hops. Best of all, the show doesn't have to stop at dinner theater. Head to drag brunch in the morning because, after all, the show must go on. Read More Note: Resta...

The Secret Is In The Sauce To Make Classic Pad See Ew - Tasting Table

Image
If you've ever enjoyed a great version of Classic Pad See Ew — either in a restaurant or in your own kitchen — then you know that the dish's appeal lies in its sweet-salty sauce. Typically composed of a mix of soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice wine vinegar, and fish sauce, the secret to the sauce stirred up by recipe developer Ting Dalton is a double dose of soy sauces, in the form of both light and dark soy sauces. According to Serious Eats, dark soy sauce — even if it isn't labeled as such — is the type of soy sauce most commonly sold. So what's light soy sauce? The outlet explains that this type of soy is lighter and thinner, but has a stronger, saltier flavor than dark soy, which can be the natural result of the brewing process, or due to additives such as rice wine, and corn syrup, or vinegar. As Dalton tells us, the two types of soy sauce combined bring a depth of flavor to her classic pad see ew that truly makes the dish shine. "Pad see ew takes its main f...

Best Blueberry Bars Recipe - How to Make Blueberry Bars - The Pioneer Woman

Image
Caitlin Bensel One bite of these buttery, crumbly blueberry bars is proof—there's no wrong way to enjoy fresh blueberries! Blueberry desserts are some of Ree Drummond's favorites, whether it's blueberry cobbler, a blueberry buckle, or even blueberry pancakes (which are like having dessert for breakfast, right?) These make-ahead bars are great for stashing into lunchboxes or for just keeping in the fridge for whenever a blueberry craving hits! How do you make blueberry bars? This recipe is super easy—simply stir and bake! The crust and the topping are made from the same mixture, just divided in two—half gets pressed into the pan and parbaked, the other half gets sprinkled over the blueberry layer. That means less thinking, less mixing, and less mess! The blueberry filling is completely no-cook, which makes it super simple. Like Ree's strawberry oatme...

J’s Noodles and New Thai is a hidden gem tucked in a strip mall on Parker Road in Denver - The Denver Post

Image
BBQ chicken at J's Noodles and New Thai on Parker Road. (Greg McBoat, Special to The Denver Post) Editor's note: Here's the first in our new series, Hidden Gems, in which we take a look at those restaurants you should know about but may not. They are either tucked away in strip malls or otherwise off the beaten path. Try them out, and if you like what you eat, pass the word.   Let's skip the part where we pretend we're shocked that there's good food in a strip mall. And let's skip the part, too, where we use that as a descriptor, as if a strip mall restaurant couldn't possibly stand up to a trending, downtown, standalone one simply because of its implied handicap of being adjacent to a dry cleaner and a Great Clips. Or — gasp — maybe even residing in the suburbs. Let's talk about J's Noodles & New Thai, at 1842 S. Parker Road, (not to be confused with — but how can it not be? — J's Noodles Star Thai o...

Classic Chocolate Cake Recipe - Mashed

Image
To make the cake, you need your standard cake stuff. The dry ingredients are flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, while the wet ones are eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla, and coffee. For the frosting, you'll also need butter, powdered sugar, and whipping cream. There are a couple of easy swaps you can make if you don't have all of the ingredients on hand. For one thing, it's super-easy to DIY your own buttermilk by adding a tablespoon of lemon juice or plain white vinegar to regular milk. For another, you don't need to open a carton of whipping cream for the few tablespoons needed in this frosting as Morone tells us "You could use half and half or milk in the frosting, instead." In fact, one benefit of making this switch is that you'll get to use a little less (try maybe 2-3 tablespoons to start) because both of these options are thinner than heavy cream.

Yorkshire Fish & Chips may serve the biggest fish sticks around Denver - Axios

Image
A full order of fish and chips from Yorkshire Fish & Chips. Photo: Alayna Alvarez/Axios Hey friends, Alayna here. I'm back with another story nobody asked for. 🙃 What's happening: I'm 99% sure I found the biggest fish sticks in metro Denver. They hail from a seafood shop on Pecos Street near U.S. 36 that my fiancé and I stumbled upon one recent Saturday afternoon. Details: Yorkshire Fish & Chips may not look like much from the street, but this no-frills family-owned restaurant has been serving authentic homemade English fare for more than 50 years. Yorkshire's fish sticks — beer-battered Icelandic cod — come fried to crispy golden perfection, served in a humble paper tray atop a bed of hot "chips." Though the fries are forgettable (and could really use some salt, as could the fish), they're redeemed by the heaps of ultra-crunchy deep-fried batter bits dumped beneath them. By the numbers: The cod is cut into roughly 9.5-inch-long, 1-inch...

Wild Thistle Kitchen: Overnight Sourdough Pancakes - Georgetowner

Image
Pancakes are a beloved weekend tradition in many homes and ours is no exception. Making them is one of the coziest ways to get the morning going and it really makes the weekend special. I used to be so amazed at how my grandma could mix up pancake batter without looking at a recipe. I was in awe of the fact that she had made them so many times that she just  knew . While she never made sourdough pancakes, these still remind me of her. These Overnight Sourdough Pancakes begin with an overnight, room-temperature ferment. This not only adds a lovely, balancing tang to the pancakes, but also provides all of the great gut-health and digestibility benefits of sourdough. Then the next morning, a few more ingredients are added right before cooking. The process is so simple and so rewarding. I'm The First to Admit That Sourdough Can Be Intimidating… But it doesn't have to be! There's a lot of rigid scheduling, measuring, weighing, fussing over the hydration and the p...

Stuffed Pepper Soup Recipe - Tasting Table

Image
Once you simmer for 20 minutes, or the rice is cooked through, you can take the soup off of the heat. Feel free to serve as you wish, and get creative with your toppings. Shungu recommends topping your bowl with pico de gallo, cheese, cilantro, and tortilla chips. We also think it would be great with some avocado and a little bit of hot sauce, if that's your thing. Transfer the soup to bowls, and top with pico de gallo, cheese, cilantro, and tortilla chips. "My favorite part is adding all the toppings — they really do make the soup extra delicious," Shungu notes. Anything left? According to Shungu, "Leftovers can be stored for three to four days in a covered dish in the refrigerator."  We hope you love this recipe as much as we do! It's such a perfect meal to prepare this time of year and all winter long.
