Church has food drive for Samaritan Kitchen summer feeding program - Wilkes Journal Patriot
Millers Creek United Methodist Church is conducting a food drive next week to benefit the Samaritan Kitchen of Wilkes summer backpack feeding program for children.
Non-perishable food will be collected at the Wesley Outreach Center (old Millers Creek United Methodist Church) at 4705 Boone Trail in Millers Creek.
Food items can be dropped off from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, and from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15. Volunteers will be there to receive donations.
Suggested food items to donate include canned tuna, canned chicken, canned beef stew, canned spaghetti (or any Chef Boyardee pasta products) Ramen noodles, pork and beans, Vienna sausages, Beanie Weenies (or similar products), chicken noodle soup (or any canned soups except mushroom), instant packets of oatmeal and grits, small packets of crackers, peanut butter snack crackers, peanut butter and any kind of snack food.
Food items that can’t packed into backpacks will go in the Samaritan Kitchen food pantry to help other people, stated a press release.
Monetary donations will be accepted as well. Checks should be made to Samaritan Kitchen or to Millers Creek United Methodist Church. If checks are made to the church, write Samaritan Kitchen on the memo line. Checks can be mailed to Millers Creek United Methodist Church at 4705 Boone Trail, Millers Creek, N.C. 28651.
The summer backpack feeding program is an extension of a similar Samaritan Kitchen program that operates during the school year. Both provide food insecure children in Wilkes with food during the weekends. Samaritan Kitchen works
