Insurance Suit
The longstanding Ringside Steakhouse, in addition to music venues Mississippi Studios, Polaris Hall, and Revolution Hall, have all filed a lawsuit against their insurer, Cincinnati Insurance Co., for denied COVID-19-related claims. They join the several restaurants and bars around the country that have started suing their insurance companies related to loss of income not covered by their plans. Garbonzos Is Back
An old-school Portland chain of falafel shops, Garbonzos, has returned as a food cart, and the Oregonian is calling its falafel and grilled eggplant sandwiches “among the best in town.” The original Garbonzos closed in 2005, but Garbonzos’ new cart in the Mittleman Jewish Community Center’s parking lot is making falafel from fresh chickpeas, as well as vegan kofta and other sandwiches wrapped in pita. Return of the Brunch
Brunches are back, baby. Not only are Urdaneta and Canard getting into the brunch game, Imperial will start a smoked brisket-centric brunch this weekend, with dishes like burnt ends burritos, huevos rancheros with shaved brisket, and brisket biscuits and gravy. On the non-brisket side of things, the restaurant is serving smoked chicken scrambles, bay shrimp omelets, and latkes with lox. Meanwhile, the famous Darcelle XV will bring back another devastating loss during the pandemic: drag brunch. Starting Sunday, the bar will host a $20, 90-minute show, complete with mimosas and a meal, hosted by celebrated queens Poison Waters and Alexis Campbell Starr.
