Famous Street Hit Lowkey Breakfast Burritos Gets New Koreatown Address - Eater LA

Hit street food stop Lowkey Burritos has managed to turn its famous cheesy-crusted breakfast burrito into an internet phenomenon, playing to tens of thousands of fans on Instagram while throwing sold-out weekly pop-ups in Long Beach and around Los Angeles. Next up: A weekly stop in Koreatown, with a permanent home to come next year.

Lowkey owner Matt Stevanus has been on a tear since first rising to citywide prominence last year, when he was selling street burritos to Downtown workers near the Staples Center. He’s more or less been pushed off that address because of some vigilant enforcement officers and the pandemic, so now the plan is to run every Friday from a private off-street setup at the edge of Koreatown and Westlake, at 2748 W. 8th Street.

Stevanus and his team are there this morning, playing tunes and griddling cheese for fans who found them on social media. Moving forward, Friday-only weekly hours at this LA location will run 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with ongoing Long Beach pop-ups continuing at Lord Windsor Coffee as well.

What’s more, Stevanus tells Eater that the plan is to eventually grow into a storefront space at the same address in on 8th. The front corner location inside the strip mall offers a ton of visibility, and Lowkey Burritos will split the large area with an as-yet-unnamed coffee shop during daytime hours, with one or two other pop-ups occupying the kitchen at night. The small collection of tenants will cooperatively operate the space, which includes a parking garage as well as a ample outdoor front seating.

That all will come some time in mid-2021, but for now Stevanus says Lowkey will be running out front every Friday, surely picking up more followers along the way.
