Boston.com readers have a runaway favorite for favorite food chain - Boston.com

Image
Our very unusual Thanksgiving of 2020 is behind us, the leftovers have been demolished, and you know what that means: Time for takeout, or, if you’re the daring sort, some socially distanced indoor dining. And we know where you want to go. You’ll recall that an ersatz “Favorite Food Chain” map chose Boston Market as the Bay State’s go-to chain eatery, resulting in much consternation among the locals on Twitter. It prompted us to ask Boston.com readers what their actual favorite chain was, and the results were clear. First we should mention that while it may not be as ubiquitous as it once was, Boston Market’s results were actually not too shabby: About 5% of the almost 300 responses gave the thumbs up to the Market as their favorite chain, more than such stalwarts as Papa Gino’s (4%), Panera Bread (4%), or Five Guys Burgers and Fries (3%). This Simple Dinner Will Invigorate - The New York Times What to Cook This Weekend - The New York Times Posted: 20 Nov 2020 12:00 AM PST Good morning. This is the final weekend before next week's run-up to Thanksgiving, a holiday feast that some of us, even our best kitchen sharpies, may be cooking for the very first time. Because maybe you've done the turkey and the sides in the past, but never the pies. Maybe the pies but never the bird. Maybe you've cooked only the sides. Maybe only one side. (My friend Ricky has brought mashed potatoes to our Thanksgiving for more than 20 years. He wrote me the other day to say it's about all he has on his menu for now: a bowl of it and some spoons for the kids.) And what about gravy? What about c...

Home Wi-Fi security tips – 5 things to check - Naked Security

Image
by Florentino Sanchez Every day is a computer security day, but November 30th is officially  Computer Security Day , intended to raise awareness of online security issues and to promote cybersecurity best practices. Days like these are a handy nudge to do a few extra security checks. With that in mind, here are some tips from the Sophos support team on how to secure your Wi-Fi network at home. Many people think that “no hacker would be interested in my home network.” But everyone has something that’s valuable to attackers: personal information, bank details, financial data, perhaps even a webcam that could let criminals know when you aren’t at home, or that might let creeps spy on you when you are. And if you’re working from home, it’s worth remembering that for a skilled attacker it’s just a hop, skip and jump across the network from your personal computer or connected device to your work laptop, and possibly from there to the whole company network. Cyber Monday safety tips from the Better Business Bureau - WBRZ

Image
BATON ROUGE - The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of South Central Louisiana is warning consumers that as Cyber Monday is expected to be one of the top shopping days of the year, it's likely online scammers will ramp up their activities. That said, shoppers can keep a few safety tips in mind to avoid falling prey to online scams. Listed below are suggestions tips from the BBB on how to shop safely this holiday season. Beware of false advertising and phony websites.  If a company is selling the hottest item of the year at a price that seems too good to be true, it probably is. Flander family serves hundreds during modified 15th Community Thanksgiving Dinner - The Recorder

By JOSHUA THOMAS Staff Writer ST. JOHNSVILLE — With the much-appreciated assistance of countless volunteers and donors, the Flander family has served hundreds each year for the past 15 during the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the H.C. Smith Benefit Club. Because of COVID-19, this year’s dinner was different in ways the Flanders could’ve never anticipated. Yet Thursday’s modified take-out- and delivery-only version of the event still went off smoothly, serving between 600 and 700 people. The Community Thanksgiving Dinner began decades ago, spearheaded by beloved community member Kathy Flander, with assistance from Paul Tonko. Kathy’s goal in hosting the annual meal at the Fort Plain Senior Center was to bring together various swaths of the community, notably sections of it — seniors and youth, for instance — that wouldn’t normally have the capacity to get to know one another. While the meal continued to gain popularity every year, its founder passed away, lea...
